Jr Highers Are Awesome!

As I mentioned I’m at the Delaware State BPA Conference and just finished up the first day which was just for middle school students. I’m back in my hotel room and they are all loaded up on the buses and are headed back home. We had a great time this morning! I did one workshop and then did a keynote after lunch. Both sessions went really well and I had a blast hanging out with the students and advisors.

Junior High students are definitely a different breed but they are a lot of fun! Close to 800 high school students pour into the hotel tomorrow morning…it’s going to be awesome!

On The Road Again…

I leave tomorrow morning to head to Dover, Delaware where I’ll be speaking a couple of times to close to 1,000 high school and middle school students. I can’t wait! Not so sure that Delaware will be the most exciting place I’ve ever visited but it should be fun!

I was also just scheduled to speak at the Oklahoma FBLA State Conference in March and the Maryland 4H State Conference in June. If you’re looking for a speaker for students or if you would like to bring me to your school or event, please email me at grant@grantbaldwin.com. I would love to hear from you!

Did The Boy Scouts Teach Me This?

For any former scout member out there, you may recall that the scout motto was a simple two word phrase:

Love Fire..…or was it…..Roasted Marshmallows…..or maybe…..First Aid Kit. Ok, I know that was three words.

Actually I think it was…

Be Prepared.

What a great description of how my week went. I’ve got a lot of travel and speaking coming up in the next few weeks that I really needed to get prepared for. And a huge lesson I’ve learned is that when you take time to prepare for something, whatever that thing is just becomes a lot less stressful.

We all know that feeling of having to turn in book report when you just started reading the book and compiled said report at 4.30 this morning. You can only pump the body full of so much Red Bull and Starbucks shots until you reach a point of diminishing returns! But when you feel prepared and you didn’t procrastinate until the last second, it changes your entire set of emotions.

I spent hours this week preparing for presentations I’ll give over the next few weeks and while it was a ton of work and a pain in the butt, I can say…

I feel prepared. And that feels pretty good.

Standing Out From The Crowd…

What are you doing to stand out from the crowd?

Whether you are looking into job opportunities, college possibilities, or you’re just becoming a better leader in your school or in your world, what are you doing to stand out from the crowd? Not necessarily what are you willing to do but rather what are you currently doing?

Are you going to work early? Staying late? Going above and beyond on a specific project?

I’m not talking about sucking up or kissing someone’s butt to get ahead. I’m talking about simply what are you doing to stand out from the crowd?

You Have To Go See This Movie…

Last night my wife and I had a lovely date night which included going to see the movie, “Vantage Point.” This was a great movie! Very intense and was set up in a very creative way. If you’re into the secret service, terrorist plot, etc type movies, check this one out. It makes for a very romantic date!

Driver’s License VS Marriage License

I had lunch today with someone I consider to be a mentor. He does a lot of marital counseling and in fact did our premarital counseling before my wife and I got married. So we get to talking about marriage and he made a very interesting observation. He said this…

It’s tougher to get your driver’s license than it is to get a marriage license.

What an accurate statement! Think about it…

In order to get your driver’s license you have to study, take tests, go out for a “test drive” with an instructor, and even take a class in high school based on driver’s ed. You have all of these hoops to jump through and these tests to pass before they give you the green light (pun intended). But in order to get married, you basically just have to show up and swear that you’re not related.

And we wonder why the divorce rate is so high. Interesting…

It’s A Small World…

One of the best things I did when I launched my website, www.GrantBaldwin.com, last November was use the tool, Google Analytics. Of course, like basically everything with Google, it is a free tool that should cost a ton more because of how awesome it is!

It tracks all kinds of stats related to the website ranging from what Google searches led to the website, what cities, states, and countries have visited, what pages people go to, how long they’re on the site, etc. You get the idea…it’s pretty cool.

It’s been interesting to me the various countries and states that have visited the site. I have visitors from:

  • Canada
  • Japan
  • Guam
  • Costa Rica
  • Poland
  • United Kingdom
  • Ivory Coast

And every US State except for 6. So if you’re from Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Maine, Idaho, Vermont…feel free to check out my site!

My Valentine…

Well I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s Day. I hope that you all got flowers, candy, puppies and other mushy stuff.

My wife and I had a very nice day. She fixed an awesome lunch of steak and shrimp so that was very nice of her. I have a really good wife who is also a really good mother (to our daughter, not to me). And she’s hot too so that’s a nice bonus.
