I made a quick trip out to Denver this week and had the privilege of speaking at a youth event out there on Friday morning. The neat part of this event was that it was for students whose parents are in the Army Reserves. Several of their parents are stationed around the country at various bases and others are stationed around the world in combat situations. It was humbling to talk with these students and to hear what their lives are like with parents in these situations.
These teenagers and their parents are true heroes in my mind. It is because of what they do that I get to do what I do.
Here’s a picture after we wrapped up. It was one of those pictures where several cameras were flashing at once and it appears I may be the only one to actually look at my camera!

Last night I spoke at the Missouri Student Council Leadership Camp in Fulton, MO. The event went really well and enjoyed my time with the StuCo students. Here are a couple of pictures:
Not sure what I was doing here…

I just got back home a little bit ago after speaking this morning at the Missouri 4H State Congress event. The event went really well and I had a great time with the students. It was fun to reconnect with several of the student leaders I had met at another conference I did with them in February.
One of the funniest moments was when I was telling a story during my talk and a little girl let out a funny scream at actually the perfect moment during the story where the sound effect fit just right! One of those, you had to be there moments!
I then drove 3 hours home and immediately took an hour nap…I was wiped but feeling a little better now!
If you were at the event, thanks for letting me hang out with you and send me an email to keep in touch!

I’ve got a couple of great events I’m speaking at this week for Missouri teenagers. Tomorrow night, I drive up to Columbia, MO and will be speaking Friday morning at the closing session of the State 4-H Congress, which is basically their annual state conference for high school students. I did an event for Missouri 4-H back in February for their middle school students, which was a lot of fun, and they invited me back so I guess I wasn’t a complete bomb. I finish up Friday morning and drive back home.
Then on Sunday, I’ll drive back up to Fulton, MO where I’ll be speaking at the opening session of the Missouri Student Council Leadership Camp. This will be a really exciting event to kick off their camp so I’m really looking forward to it.
I’ll try to post some pictures and keep you updated on how the events go. I can’t wait!

I’m at the house this morning finishing packing up some odds and ends and getting ready to hit the road again for the week. Usually about one week each month, I work with an organization as an independent contractor doing full day seminars for business professionals on time management and organization. But for May, I actually have 2 full back to back weeks coming up which is pretty grueling. But at the end of next week, I’m flying to St. Louis to meet my wife and we’re going to a Cardinals game which will be awesome!
So today I fly to Detroit and speak there Monday & Tuesday. Tuesday night I’ll catch a flight to Indianapolis where I’ll speak Wednesday and Thursday. When I’m done on Thursday in Indy, I’ll drive to Chicago and speak Friday there and fly home Friday night. It is certainly a full week but I enjoy training people and watching them have those “aha” moments where the light bulb clicks on.
In addition to time management and organization, we also talk a lot about balancing life and finding work that you’re passionate about – two subjects that I love to teach on.
So while it is fun meeting new people and running around, I sure miss my girls! I’m just thankful for the power of webcams!

I just got these pictures emailed to me from Jose who ran PowerPoint for me for part of my talk. I told you that the event with Oklahoma FBLA was awesome and here’s Jose’s face to prove it!

Thanks Jose! You’re Awesome!

I learned this valuable lesson when I went to speak at a high school assembly this afternoon. I was speaking just to the senior class which was supposed to be 350 students. But of course, today was April Fool’s Day and they didn’t have much reason to be there, so after lunch they all went home.
No big deal, except that my assembly was right after lunch. So instead of 350 seniors, I had 45 seniors in the assembly!
So the lesson is this: Don’t do an assembly for seniors on senior skip day.
Bad plan. Funny memory.

I’m just getting ready to leave Tulsa and head back home after finishing up here at the Oklahoma FBLA State Conference. The event went really well and there are really some outstanding people that made it happen.
I’m always impressed by how much the advisors truly care about their students. These are people that volunteer to give up their weekend, endure a several hour bus ride with crazy teenagers, stay up late to make sure they don’t break anything or kill each other, and work hours and hours with their students to make sure they are prepared for their events. And maybe the craziest part of it all…they’ll do it all again next year and they love every minute of it.
Just an around great event with some amazing students and leaders!
