This morning a good friend and I went out for what has been traditionally called, “A Good Walk Spoiled.” If you’ve ever played golf before, then you know just how true that is.
We had a great time and we both played alright which helps. But throughout the day, we both made observations that warranted a blog. Here are some great things you can learn from golf:
- Excuses – It’s too windy. The greens are too fast. My club is acting up. It’s the balls fault (not sure if we actually used that one). We can come up with excuses for anything and everything can’t we? I once heard it said that “Excuses are like armpits. Everyone has them and they all stink.” That will give you a visual image to think about…
- Focus – Golf is one of those games that requires an incredible amount of focus if you’re going to be good at it. It means blocking out the wind, the noise, the cars, and that little voice in your head telling you you’re going to miss the putt. Unfortunately, I listened to him a few too many times today.
- Relax – It is so easy to get so wrapped up in a stupid game that you lose the fun of it. So what is it in your life that you are just taking too seriously and you need to learn to lighten up a little more and have some fun?
On a separate note, for those who care, we did tie. He had a 2 shot lead on the final hole and he bogeyed it and I pared it. I guess one other thing golf teaches you is that you have to finish strong!
