As a youth speaker, I’m all about helping inspire change in the lives of people. Of course, the key word there is inspire. The fact is I can’t change anyone.
Everyone has to take responsibility and ownership over their own lives and create change as they see necessary.
But as I’ve said before, people won’t change until they are fed up and disgusted with the way things are. They won’t do things differently until they’ve had enough.
A lot of times though we keep putting off changes in our lives by making deals with ourselves.
I’ll start taking my grades seriously when it’s closer to graduation.
I’ll save my money and pay attention to my finances once I have a real job.
I’ll watch what I eat and start exercising when I reach ______ pounds.
I’ll work less and be home more once things slow down a little bit.
When you make these deals with yourself, you’re making a deal to be mediocre. Think about it. When you make a deal with yourself, you’re saying, “I recognize I’m being mediocre but I’ll let it continue to get worse until it’s bad enough that I have no choice but to do something about it.”
Ouch. If that didn’t sting a little, you need to re-read that statement.
What areas are you making deals with yourself and settling for mediocrity?

Well said! I lived far too long with a mediocre attitude towards my spiritual life, family, etc. It’s way better to live expectantly, living a life that says, “God what are you going to do in and through me today?”
