Yesterday as I was waiting to board my plane in Nashville, there was a guy standing next to me talking on his cell phone. Of course this isn’t unusual in anyway but I couldn’t help but overhear his end of the conversation. Now generally I don’t find myself eavesdropping but this was different.
The gentleman was clearly emotional about something and was calling a series of people to tell them something. And with each call he made, his first line was the same:
“We just found out he has cancer.”
And then he would begin to choke up with emotion.
This guy was on my flight sitting a few rows behind me and occasionally I would just glance back at him. Other than eavesdropping on the phone call, you wouldn’t really have any idea what was going on in this guy’s world.
To me, it was a simple reminder that you never really know what someone else is going through.
